After a successful webinar event Healesville CoRE held over the weekend on the topic of energy efficiency in the home, we thought it important to share these special news items with you. 

H'CoRE invites you take the oppurtunity to check out this three-part ABC documentary which aims to empower and motivate Australians to take action on climate change.

Premiering tomorrow night (Tuesday 11th of August) at 8.30pm, Craig Reucassel (formally of The Chaser and ABC’s War on Waste) takes a look at the challenges and pathways forward to tackle climate change in the new mini-series, Fight for Planet A. Over three-parts, the show will look at energy, transport, health and food, and talk with businesses, organisations and individuals taking action.

Fight for Planet A will entertain, inform and challenge our thoughts on climate change. The series follows five diverse Australian households, each from a different location across the country, who discover the impact of their lifestyle choices on their carbon emissions.

Far from taking the pressure off governments and industry, Craig will check in to see if they are doing all they can to make the changes we need and challenge them to do better. He’ll question our politicians and meet some inspiring Australians who are working toward solutions for the future of our planet.

Coming to ABC TV + iview on August 11, 18 and 25, the series will remain on iview after the broadcast for at least 3 months.

Healesville CoRE would like to invite you to an online Q&A event series hosted by the Yarra Ranges Council, the first occurring this Saturday 15th of August.

Following the airing of each episode of 'Fight For Planet A: Our Climate Challenge', an online panel discussion featuring experts who appear on the program will be held on the Saturday following the airing of each episode.

Yarra Ranges Council has recognised that the airing of this ABC program  presents an opportunity to host a meaningful and inspired conversation, and Healesville CoRE is thrilled to have had our founder and President, Jeff Barlow, invited to the first panel discussion.

The topic of each online Q&A event will follow the topics covered in each episode of 'Fight for Planet A: Our Climate Challenge'. This weeks topic is all about Energy. 

Key themes include:
- Household energy emissions and tips to reduce them
- Investigating into how long carbon has been accumulating in our atmosphere
- Communities working together on renewable energy solutions
- The impact of coal on our national carbon emissions and our health

Event Details:

Date and time: First event will be held Saturday 15th August at 10am, and then the same time on the next 2 Saturdays: 22nd, and 29th of August! 

Registration: Yarra Ranges Council has informed us that they will be releasing registration details for the event via their website shortly, so check their website by hitting the button below and watch for registration notifications!

Our speakers:
Alan Pears AM: Alan is a Senior Industry Fellow RMIT and Fellow Climate & Energy College University of Melbourne. He was a former RMIT lecturer and home energy efficiency consultant. Alan was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2009 for his contribution to environmental and energy policy. He has a big picture understanding of energy usage in Australia as well as being able to share information on energy saving products for the home

Glenn Newman: Glenn is a home energy efficiency expert and works at Enviroshop in Northcote, Melbourne, and at Darebin Council. He is a great source of information on all things to do with home energy efficiency and is familiar with all the latest home energy efficiency products, many of which are available through Enviroshop.

The Webinar:
The webinar runs for around 1.5 hours. It starts with Jeff Barlow, President of Healesville CoRE introducing the webinar and the speakers (10 minutes). Jeff is followed by Alan Pears (30 minutes) and then Glenn Newman (30 minutes) with a 20 minute Q&A after Glenn.
