We bring you this newsletter with exciting information about our upcoming official launch of our YV-CP Hub, occuring on the 28/8. Scroll on down to learn more about the launch and other great news items.

The Yarra Valley Community Power Hub will flick the switch on a new era for renewable energy in the Greater Yarra Valley and Ranges, with its official launch on 28 August marking a major milestone for the program.

Formed after receiving $428,500 in funds from the Victorian Government, the Power Hub brings together seven local community energy groups which are committed to driving renewable energy projects in their communities. Their goal is to reduce the region’s carbon footprint, while promoting a movement away from centralised energy and towards locally sourced, sustainable energy.

Launch event details:
Mayor of Yarra Ranges, Councillor Fiona McAllister, will lead proceedings, which will take place during an online event being held from 9.30am to 11.30am, on Saturday the 28th August.

There will be updates on the renewable energy projects around the region with what Council is doing to reduce our carbon footprint, and what the new Yarra Valley Community Power Hub, hosted by Healesville CoRE, has in store over the next 12 months.

The Central Committee of Healesville CoRE is pleased to advise our financial members and the general public that the 2021 Annual General Meeting will be held on: 

Thursday 2 September from 7:30-9.30 pm via Zoom Meeting due to Covid 19 restrictions.

The meeting will commence with the Annual General Meeting. Once the formal business is completed, this will be followed by a presentation by Julian Guess of the Yarra Ranges Council Sustainability Team and Jeff Barlow, President of Healesville CoRE.

Jeff will talk about his role as the Executive Officer of the newly formed Yarra Valley Community Power Hub (YV-CPHub) and Julian will talk about the YV-CPHub from a Council perspective as well as provide an update on the latest Council developments in renewable energy.

We are recruiting volunteers for:

IT Manager - to handle our IT work – mainly Google Workspace, our WordPress website and our CRM. 

Community Engagement Manager – to assist and guide us in our engagement with the community.

Membership Coordinator – to keep an eye on our membership recruitment.

Monash Uni's 'Net Zero' team have received a sizable federal grant to establish complex microgrids in three locations: Yarra Ranges, Wodonga and the Surf Coast. Monash will be working closely with local communities and local groups and we are very excited they have expressed interest in working with Healesville CoRE on the Yarra Ranges project!

Monash will use its microgrid, smart energy, storage and commercial expertise to develop a business case for microgrids by demonstrating how they can reduce emissions, improve energy reliability and reduce energy costs.

Each microgrid will aim to virtually connect one business and approximately 20 homes into a microgrid including local renewable generation and energy storage. The study will capture and analyse data to help develop attractive and replicable investment opportunities.
