This project has generated quite a lot of interest, and rightly so. It’s only been two years since the huge storm hit the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, leaving many households without power for a week or more. And then there’s the flooding we’ve experienced over the past couple of years, and the constant threat of bushfires. In order to help communities become more resilient during these times of emergency, Yarra Ranges Council is working with Monash University on several feasibility studies that assess how to power select communities using microgrids.
The report is now in, and the good news is that the Healesville microgrid appears financially feasible. The project team will now work with the community to identify the potential microgrid scope, find delivery partners and work through ownership and governance models.
