President Karen Roberts

I had a burning desire to make a difference in the community for quite some time and helping to take positive action to mitigate the effects of climate change seemed to fit the bill. After the 2017 town meeting when Healesville Community Renewable Energy began I was very excited to hear what was being planned and immediately joined as a volunteer, along with my husband Ron.

At first I was involved with all the setting up tasks – creating innovative slogans for our new banners, helping out at our free community events, etc. After a year or so I took on the role of Grants Officer, and have applied to local, state and federal government for various needs over the years. Towards the end of 2022 the founder and president indicated that he was ready to step down soon, so after careful consideration I decided to take on the role as president, a completely new challenge for me! It’s been a steep learning curve but we have a very enthusiastic and supportive team to work with.

I’ve lived in the Yarra Valley nearly all my life and in Healesville since 1992. I love it here. I love the community, the natural beauty and the stunning mountain view I wake up to every morning. Music is also my passion – I sing in a choir and lead a U3A musical group, playing either my guitar or ukulele. I also play badminton, read biographies, am part of a local walking group and love to head out on our boat for a night or two on the water. Wouldn’t live anywhere else!
