I’m Julian Higgs and I am the Treasurer of Healesville CoRE and have been since 2019. My wife and I escaped the suburbs and moved to Healesville in 2006. We really didn’t know much about Healesville, it just happened to be where the block of land we liked happened to be. What good luck for us! Suffice to say the move to the Yarra Valley is one of the best decisions we ever made. We love gardening, bushwalking, bike riding and just being in the wonderful country environment that Healesville and the Yarra Valley offer.
When we moved here we were winding down our working lives and after a few years were fully retired. That’s when we started to get involved in community activities, partly to get involved in the community we had joined and partly to contribute back to that community. We both became involved in U3A Healesville (and still participate) and filled the positions of Class Coordinator, Treasurer and President for a number of years. After that, the need for a new hot water service led me to Healesville CoRE and its community offer for Heat Pump Hot Water Services. Having installed that unit I joined as a member and soon joined the committee in the role of Treasurer. This suits me well as I am a passionate believer in the need to address climate change and that this has to happen at all levels – individual, household, community and above. Leaving it to the major greenhouse gas contributors is not an answer. Everyone at all levels has to contribute. This is what Healesville CoRE is all about and why I have got involved in this organisation.
