On Sat 19th of June, we held an online event featuring Dr Helen Haines, Independent Federal MP for Indi, who discussed her Local Power Plan. Gerald Arends & Jonathan Prendergast, Directors of Komo Energy, also detailed the possibility of a Healesville Microgrid. The event was opened by Cr Fiona McAllister, Mayor of Yarra Ranges Council and Councillor for Ryrie Ward. This 3 part video series is a recording of the whole event. Switching To Solar

The Healesville Energy Revolution is Here!

This two hour video was recorded on Monday 12 October 2020. It consists of three parts: an introduction by the President of Healesville CoRE, Jeff Barlow; this is followed by the first speaker, Ben McGowan from Indigo Power; second speaker, Matthew Charles-Jones from Mondo and Totally Renewable Yackandandah; third speaker, Julian Guess from the Sustainability unit at Yarra Ranges Council.

Ben explains the origins of Indigo Power as a community owned energy provider and launches the Healesville Community Energy Hub through which residents in Healesville and surrounding postcodes can sign up to purchase their electricity from Indigo Power, which returns 50% of profits to the community.

Matt addresses the changing face of energy production, storage and distribution in Australia, from a centralized to an emerging decentralized model and the place of micro grids, distributed energy and community energy in this transformation.

Julian addresses the achievements of the Yarra Ranges Council in working towards net zero with its own energy needs, the development of solar farms on old sealed tip sites and the development of a biochar facility at Coldstream.

Alan Pears AM

Alan is a Senior Industry Fellow RMIT and Fellow Climate & Energy College University of Melbourne. He was a former RMIT lecturer and home energy efficiency consultant. Alan was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2009 for his contribution to environmental and energy policy. He has a big picture understanding of energy usage in Australia as well as being able to share information on energy saving products for the home

Glenn Newman

Glen is a home energy efficiency expert and works at Enviroshop in Northcote, Melbourne, and at Darebin Council. He is a great source of information on all things to do with home energy efficiency and is familiar with all the latest home energy efficiency products, many of which are available through Enviroshop.

The Webinar:

The webinar runs for around 1.5 hours. It starts with Jeff Barlow, President of Healesville CoRE introducing the webinar and the speakers (10 minutes). Jeff is followed by Alan Pears (30 minutes) and then Glenn Newman (30 minutes) with a 20 minute Q&A after Glenn.
